Terms of Service

Last updated: 22 July 2026

1. The service

snippi (the "Service") is a personal-use web application operated by SoCo Studio (Pty) Ltd ("SoCo Studio", "we", "us") that lets you search YouTube for music videos, create short clips (1–30 seconds) from those videos using a blur-pillarbox visual treatment, and share those clips to third-party platforms.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, to use the Service. By using the Service you represent and warrant that you meet this requirement.

3. Acceptable use

You agree NOT to use the Service to:

  • Infringe any copyright, trade mark, or other intellectual property right of any person.
  • Reproduce, distribute, publicly perform, or commercially exploit clips created through the Service without authorisation from the rights holder(s).
  • Create content that is unlawful, harmful, defamatory, obscene, harassing, or otherwise objectionable.
  • Circumvent, disable, or otherwise interfere with any security or access-control feature of the Service.
  • Use the Service in any way that could damage, disable, overburden, or impair our infrastructure, or interfere with any other user's enjoyment of the Service.
  • Use the Service for automated bulk processing, scraping, or any activity that imposes a disproportionate load on our systems.

4. YouTube terms & source content

The Service sources video and audio content from YouTube (Google LLC). By using the Service you acknowledge and agree that:

  • YouTube's Terms of Service apply to source content accessed through the Service.
  • YouTube and the original rights holders (artists, labels, publishers) own all rights in the source material.
  • The Service does not host, redistribute, or claim ownership of any source material; we only transcode a user-selected segment at the moment of request.
  • Content ID and other rights enforcement systems are managed by YouTube and the rights holders, not by us.

5. Your content & intellectual property

The audio in clips you create through the Service is and remains the property of the original rights holders. We claim no ownership over the underlying music, video, or artwork.

You are solely responsible for how you use the clips you create, including any consequences of sharing them on third-party platforms (Content ID claims, copyright strikes, account restrictions, etc.). SoCo Studio is not liable for how third-party platforms handle clips you create.

6. Copyright complaints (DMCA / takedown)

If you believe that content created through the Service infringes your copyright, send a written notice to rafiki@socostudio.co.za including:

  • A description of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed.
  • The URL, ID, or other identifier of the allegedly infringing content.
  • Your contact details (name, email, phone, address).
  • A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorised by the rights holder, its agent, or the law.
  • Your physical or electronic signature.

We will respond to valid notices within 5 business days.

7. Third-party platforms

The Service integrates with third-party platforms including but not limited to: YouTube (Google LLC), WhatsApp (Meta Platforms, Inc.), Facebook (Meta Platforms, Inc.), Instagram (Meta Platforms, Inc.), and TikTok (ByteDance Ltd.). Your use of those platforms is governed by their respective terms. SoCo Studio is not responsible for the availability, accuracy, content, or practices of any third-party platform.

8. Service availability

The Service is provided on an as-available basis. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, with or without notice. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access or that every search or cut will succeed.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and accuracy of results. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties; in those jurisdictions the exclusions above apply only to the extent permitted by law.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall SoCo Studio (Pty) Ltd, its directors, employees, agents, or affiliates be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, including loss of data, income, profit, or goodwill, arising from or related to your use of the Service, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising from the Service shall not exceed R500 (five hundred rand) or the total amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, whichever is greater.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless SoCo Studio (Pty) Ltd and its directors, employees, and agents from and against any claim, demand, loss, liability, damage, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party right (including copyright).

12. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms or if continued provision of the Service is no longer commercially viable for us.

13. Governing law & disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. The Parties consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Magistrate's Court for the district of Port Shepstone (or the KwaZulu-Natal High Court, Pietermaritzburg, for matters exceeding that court's jurisdiction) for any dispute arising from or related to these Terms or the Service, without prejudice to either Party's right to seek urgent interim relief.

14. Consumer Protection Act (CPA)

To the extent that the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 ("CPA") applies to the Service, nothing in these Terms is intended to override any mandatory provision of the CPA. Where any provision of these Terms is found to be inconsistent with the CPA, the CPA will prevail.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent changes. Continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
