Privacy Policy

snippi is operated by SoCo Studio (Pty) Ltd ("we", "us"), a company registered in the Republic of South Africa. For privacy questions, email rafiki@socostudio.co.za.

We collect the minimum data needed to operate the Service:

• Search queries you submit (e.g. song titles) — used to call the YouTube Data API and discarded immediately after the cut completes.
• Cut metadata — video ID, start time, duration — used to generate your clip. We retain a copy of the cut file in our private Google Drive archive as a personal backup; you can request deletion at any time.
• Chat messages sent to the in-app Rafiki assistant — forwarded to the MiniMax API for processing under their privacy terms. We don't log, store, or analyse them.
• Standard server logs — IP address, user agent, request URL, timestamp — kept for up to 30 days for security and debugging.

We do not collect: your name, email, phone, location, contacts, or any data not listed above. We do not run third-party advertising or analytics trackers.

We use the data above only to:

• Respond to your search and cut requests.
• Stream your cut file back to you for download/share.
• Keep the Service secure and operational.

To deliver the Service we send specific data to:

• YouTube (Google LLC) — your search query, to find matching videos.
• MiniMax — your chat messages, to generate the assistant's replies.
• Google (Cloudflare proxy for static hosting; Google Drive for archival of cut files) — standard infrastructure.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your data with anyone for marketing or advertising purposes.

A note on Rafiki. It's built for music — finding songs, picking clip moments. It steers off-topic personal conversations back to music and forgets anything personal the moment the conversation ends. Just don't share anything you wouldn't tell a stranger at a music shop.

The Service does not set tracking cookies. The Service uses:

• Local storage on your device for the cut file blob (so the share/download buttons work one-tap). Cleared on page reload.
• Standard Cloudflare cookies for DDoS protection and rate limiting on the static frontend.

• Cut files: archived in a private Google Drive folder for personal backup, retained until you request deletion.
• Server logs: 30 days.
• Chat messages with Rafiki: not retained by us after the response is generated.

Under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 ("POPIA"), you have the right to:

• Request a description of the personal information we hold about you.
• Request correction or deletion of that information.
• Object to processing of your personal information.
• Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.

To exercise any of these rights, email rafiki@socostudio.co.za. We will respond within 30 days as required by POPIA.

The Service is served over HTTPS, downloads are tokenised with HMAC-signed URLs that expire, and server access is restricted. No system is perfectly secure; if you become aware of a vulnerability, please report it to the contact above.

The Service is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the most recent changes.
